| OBJECTIVE To design a backrest which works preventively against spinal column disorders, reduces tension in monitor screen work and provides supportive relief or pain reduction where spinal column disorders already exist. The seat should allow dynamic active sitting and adjusts automatically to the disired body posture without the need for an adjustment lever or continually obstructing the movement of the body. FUNCTION OF THE MULTIBACK® BACKREST The moveable interior linings of the backrest are inconspicuous, they relieve, support and have a massaging effect. They also move vertically upwards, downwards, to the front or to the rear independently of the seat or backrest so that the lining always follows the body contours automatically or, if necessary, moves back by itself to the basic position (following the contours of the outside chair/seat shell). The side supports prevents a feeling of weak support while allowing full mobility, this also allows the Multiback® Backrest to be built into car seats. In the lying position the upper part of the cushion sinks, making the neck support effective. |
| Special model: MULTIBACK® PLUS swivel chair with
automatic seat height adjustment. If there is a risk of obstructing blood circulation due to excessive pressure on the front edge, the chair lowers the edge automatically. As soon as a normal sitting position is again adopted, the seat and the backrest readjust to the body. Other chairs with a traditional backrest have to be continually moved by hand to avoid having the spinal column support in the wrong place. At the same time the unpleasant frictional pressure on clothing is avoided. |

| EXPERT OPINION FOR THE
MULTIBACK® BACKREST Pain in the spinal column, pains radiating to the arms, legs, head and tension in the area of the spinal column are often typical results of poor posture and caused by incorrect sitting positions. |
| "Sitting" places a greater load on the legs and the lumbar vertebra than a correct standing position or lying down unless one sits in a semi-lying position in an armchair supported by a lumbar cushion. Deliberate control of seated body posture principally concerns the position of the spine so that one should try to tilt the pelvis, raise the thorax and stretch the cervical vertebra. One of the most important requirements for a chair is an active spinal column support and relief at the same time. The Multiback® backrest ideally meets this requirement. | ![]() |
| Multiback® is a backrest with integrated
internal pivoting positions and the fulcrum offsets towards the back so that it can
carry out its function of supporting and relieving independently of the backrest
shell and contribute to a physiological tilting of the pelvis. Relief is thus provided
since the spinal column is raised. The design of the backrest prevents the spinal column
from being in the incorrect position, no dorsal pressure is put on the spinal processes or
the sacrum, the lumbar and chest regions are supported through the bulk of the bodys
stretching musculature, and in the pelvic region through the bones of the pelvic girdle.
In existing office chairs there is a risk that the spinal column is only supported in the
upper part of the lumbar region and in the thoracic spinal column region. The newly
developed backrest supports the spinal column principally in the effected regions and thus
creates the conditions for comfortable, correct and fatigue-free sitting. Dr. Manfred GOSCHLER |
